Established in July of 2024, the Musical Miles Podcast was born from a simple suggestion by our daughter, Kallie, after Byron unexpectedly found himself retired from a longtime career as a manufacturing executive. When she asked, “What are you going to do now, Dad?” his honest response was, “I have no idea.” Without hesitation, Kallie replied, “I think you and Mom (Shanda) should start a podcast.”
What began as a spontaneous idea quickly turned into an exciting new chapter neither of us saw coming. After decades spent traveling to concerts, festivals, rodeos, and songwriter events together, we realized music had been preparing us for this journey all along.
Just two weeks later, we sat down for our very first interview with singer/songwriter Heath Clark. In many ways, Heath was the perfect choice for our debut guest. His family’s band — which included his father, grandfather, and uncle — had performed at our wedding reception back in 1983, bringing the story of Musical Miles full circle from the very beginning.
What started as an unexpected leap of faith soon became a passion-driven journey centered around music, storytelling, travel, and the relationships built along the way. Today, Musical Miles Podcast continues to celebrate the artists, songwriters, venues, and fans who make the live music experience unforgettable.
First, we had to decide exactly what our podcast would be about. That may have been the easiest decision of all, because throughout our 44-year marriage we’ve shared a deep love for music — especially live music. From small-town fairs and songwriter rounds to legendary venues and major music festivals, music has always been part of our journey together.
Along the way, we realized that the perfect musical equation is built around four distinct components:
1 — The Song
2 — The Artist
3 — The Venue
4 — The Fans
When those four elements come together, they create the unforgettable experience that inspires the Musical Miles Podcast. Every mile traveled and every interview conducted is rooted in our passion for preserving the stories behind the songs and shining a spotlight on the people who bring music to life.
For us, music has always been more than entertainment — it’s connection, community, and shared experiences. Whether we’re visiting with a Hall of Fame songwriter, an emerging independent artist, or fellow fans gathered around a stage, we believe every conversation has a story worth telling.

Standing firmly behind our decision to conduct every interview in person has become the foundation of the Musical Miles Podcast. No matter the miles traveled, sitting down face-to-face with each guest is what sets us apart from many other podcasts in the music world. Our commitment to attending music festivals, songwriter showcases, rodeos, and historic venues — while connecting with like-minded fans along the way — is simply part of who we are and what we do.
We believe there is something special about sharing a conversation in the very places where music is created, performed, and celebrated. Those real-life settings bring an authenticity and energy to each interview that simply cannot be duplicated through a screen.
From the very beginning, our goal has been to provide a platform for musical artists to share their stories, talents, and journeys. Over the years, we’ve been honored to host everyone from emerging independent artists to legendary performers, Hall of Fame songwriters, and award-winning entertainers. More than anything, our mission is to help preserve the stories behind the songs and celebrate the people, places, and fans that keep live music alive.
